These are available to PRA Fellows and Diplomates.

The principal objective of these plans is display solidarity with our fellows and diplomates in their time of need by providing financial assistance to members who have suffered prolonged infirmity or are facing legal difficulties and in extending assistance to their heirs in the event of death. This is a membership assistance program and not an insurance investment.

  • In the event of death of the member, the spouse or immediate member of the family (father/mother/sibling as the case may be) shall receive the benefit of the deceased fellow/ diplomates.
  • In the event of disability, a fellow/ diplomate may file and be eligible to receive a disability benefit.
  • In situations wherein the fellow/ diplomate may require legal assistance, the fellow/ diplomate may file and be eligible for legal assistance benefit.

Any fellow or diplomate in good standing of the Philippine Rheumatology Association is eligible for the benefits. A fellow/ diplomate is considered to be in good standing should be up-to-date in the payment of his dues and must have no outstanding financial accountability to the association and must comply with the requirements for membership in good standing set by the Committee on Membership and Credentials.

A.  Death Benefits:

Shall be P 20,000.00 subject to the following rules:

  • Fellows/ Diplomates belonging to the categories listed above shall be eligible for benefits regardless of the number of years he has been a member, as long as he is a member in good standing at the time of his death.
  • The benefit shall be paid directly to the estate of the deceased unless the member designates a specific beneficiary.
  • Immediately upon the death of the member, notification shall be sent directly to the PRA Secretariat by the member’s next of kin. The PRA Board, upon the receipt of the notification, shall pay the benefit within 15 days upon verification of the report.

B.  Disability Benefits

Disability benefit shall be P 20,000.00

  • For purposes of this program, disability is defined as incapacity to practice medicine for a continuous period of at least 60 days;
  • Disability benefit may be applied for once every year.
  • Payment of disability benefits will not be rendered if the condition resulted from a self-inflicted injury or in cases of widespread calamities where a great number of members are affected and the viability of other programs is endangered, in which event the benefits under this program may be correspondingly reduced or rescinded.
  • All applications for disability benefit must be submitted within 60 days in case of temporary disability where the member was unable to practice for a continuous period of 60 days or within 180 days or 6 months from contracting the disability in the case of continuing permanent disability.
  • The disabled member shall submit to the PRA Board a medical certificate from the attending physician stating the inclusive date of disability.
  • The PRA Board shall, upon receipt of this notification, immediately process the claim by checking the certification and if they are in order, pay the benefit within 30  days upon receipt of the claim with the corresponding requirement or supporting documents.

C.  Legal Assistance

Legal assistance shall be P 10,000.00

  • Legal assistance may be rendered to any fellow/ diplomate who faces legal proceedings arising from the practice of rheumatology.
  • Assistance may be applied for once every year.
  • All applications for legal assistance must be submitted within 60 days of commencement of the legal proceedings against the member.
  • The member shall submit to the PRA Board a copy of the legal brief detailing the complaints made against the member.
  • The PRA Board shall, upon receipt of this notification, immediately process the claim by checking the certification and if they are in order, pay the benefit within 30 days upon receipt of the claim with the corresponding requirement or supporting documents.
